Benetton launch ‘Unemployee of the Year’ campaign

Putting the spotlight on the jobless youth, fashion retailer Benetton is inviting unemployed people aged 18-30 to submit creative projects to help aid the situation.

One could never accuse fashion retailer Benetton of being predictable (remember those ads showing world leaders kissing each other - including Pope Benedict in embrace with an Iman?) and its newest campaign is a fine case in point.

The brand's chairman, Alessandro Benetton, is so concerned with youth unemployment (estimated to be at 100 million globally) that he has launched an online contest to sustain 100 creative projects submitted by those aged 18 to 30 years old who are out of work. The projects must lead to concrete social impact in the participants' community and will be submitted to the UN HATE Foundation website and selected by the online community.
The Foundation, whose aim is to "promote a culture of non-hate" and "support youth to become actors of change against indifference and stigma" will award those chosen with €5,000 euros.

Benetton explained how the campaign "presents a realistic portrait of today's society by actively tackling a current problem, that of youth non-employment and the potential conflict between generations, in order to show it in a new light and create value for the immense human capital of young people."
An accompanying global print and video campaign shows determined young people in situation striving to find work and also includes posters and T-shirts.

Watch: Behind the scenes on Lana Del Rey's H&M advert

Enjoy a preview of Lana Del Rey's TV advert for H&M, which showcases the store's autumn/winter 2012 campaign and the singer's cover of the song 'Blue Velvet'.

H&M has given us a taste of what to expect from Lana Del Rey's TV advert for the brand, which will premiere on their website tomorrow.

The short film takes us through the three-day shoot and reveals a '50s-style set, Lana (and her resplendent beehive) decked out in the same H&M garb she wears in the print adverts, singing, being hypnotised by a pocket watch and seductively standing in an old telephone box, interspersed with various other characters as the set and costumes are prepped.

The singer has recorded a cover of Blue Velvet , the song popularised by Bobby Vinton in 1963, for which the advert will also be a showcase.

H&M announced that they had signed Del Rey to front their autumn/winter 2012 campaign in July , before releasing the L.A. noir-inspired campaign images, which were shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, in August.

The 26-year-old New Yorker, whose real name is Elizabeth Grant, has been welcomed into the fashion industry with open arms, appearing on the cover of British Vogue 's March 2012 issue, having a Mulberry bag named after her and being signed up by model agency Next Models.

Chanel ordered to pay 960,000 AED in counterfeiting case

Chanel has been ordered to pay the sum to their former knitwear supplier, World Tricot, who accused them of copying one of their designs.

Chanel has been ordered to pay a former knitwear supplier, World Tricot, £161,000 (€200,000) by the Paris Court of Appeal.

The ruling is the latest twist in an ongoing legal battle between the two companies.

In 2009, World Tricot attempted to sue Chanel for £3.6 million: £1.3 million for wrongful termination of the business relationship, and £2.3 million for alleged counterfeiting of a white crochet pattern. Chanel denied all accusations and the commercial court ruled in their favour ordering World Tricot to pay Chanel £161,000 euros for "public disparagement".
However, the court decided on Friday to overturn that ruling and instead ordered Chanel to pay World Tricot.
"This is the first time we have faced this type of situation, although we work with close to 400 suppliers. This very specific case is in no way a reflection of the quality of our relations with our suppliers," Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel fashion told WWD .
Chanel says they will decide "shortly" whether or not to appeal the decision to the French Supreme Court.
